Myofascial Therapy in Bay City

Feeling consistent muscle stiffness and pain? Renew Spine & Rehab offers myofascial therapy in Bay City to relieve it. Our noninvasive, hands-on approach will soften up your tight muscles and relieve pain without relying on pain medications or surgery.

What Is Myofascial Therapy?

It’s a manual treatment method in which the practitioner searches for tightness in some regions of the body and applies pressure to it. The goal is to release the stiffness by using deep and direct pressure on the fascial tissue until it softens.

Your fascia is a thin network of tissues surrounding your muscles. If you experience stiffness or chronic pain in an area of your body, the fascial tissue is likely at the root.

Our team at Renew Spine & Rehab offers myofascial release therapy for mild and chronic pain relief in Bay City. This can be a standalone treatment or part of a personalized care plan, depending on your needs.

What to Expect During a Myofascial Therapy Session

After searching for myofascial therapy near me and choosing our clinic, you can expect to undergo this process:

  • Initial Assessment: Before the actual therapy starts, trained practitioners will conduct a physical assessment to determine which approach best suits your condition. They will check your posture for misalignments and your back and neck muscles for stiffness and pain.
  • Applying Pressure: After determining the pain points, practitioners apply varying pressure to the muscle's trigger points. They hold the pressure for several minutes using their hands and elbows before releasing it.
  • Stretching: As a follow-up to applying pressure, practitioners may stretch the fascial muscles and hold them for several minutes before releasing them. When your muscle responds to the treatment, you may feel warmth around the muscle area and mild soreness.
  • Recommendations: After the myofascial treatment session, the practitioner will educate you on post-session exercises and stretching techniques to encourage further recovery. This will also be helpful in your progression should you require multiple sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

They differ in several ways. Myofascial therapy applies pressure to a specific point in your body and holds it before releasing it, while therapeutic massage uses hand strokes to apply gentle pressure to different points. Either of these two can make you feel lighter.

Anyone who experiences mild to chronic pain can benefit from this treatment. If you’re an athlete or a desk worker who’s prone to experiencing muscle stiffness, we highly recommend this treatment for you.

You’ll feel at ease throughout the session. We’ll always consider your comfort level as part of the treatment, so you and your body are more receptive to recovery and healing.

You will mostly feel relaxed. Depending on the case, you may feel a slight discomfort when softening tight knots, but we’ll make sure you’re at ease.

It varies depending on the case. We recommend you consult with our practitioners so we can better assess your condition and design a treatment plan suited to you.

What Our Patients Say

Everyone is kind, knowledgeable, caring, and understanding. I am not an easy case. I have been in chiropractic care since I was 13. I was having headaches, and my mom took me to the dentist and eye doctor, tried everything, and we ended up with the chiropractor. Years later, I learned my hips were uneven, and the s curve in my spine was not there, not scoliosis, but not the way it should be. I also have TMD, which is called TMJ. Dr. Benson is treating all this and my new arthritis problems that affected my entire left leg and took the strength from my thigh muscle. My body is writhing in pain. However, he and his team are working to calm the pain and heal my body- the best part is that my insurance covers it.

Dr. Benson is absolutely the best! I took my husband to the ER in severe pain in his lower back. He could not move. They pumped him full of pain medication and sent him on his way, saying they could not help him. I called Dr. Benson's office while in the ER and explained the situation. I took my husband straight to his office from the ER; he could not walk, could not sit up, and was laid out in the back seat of my truck. Dr. Benson came out to my truck and helped to get him out of the truck and into one of the rooms. After working on him for about 45 minutes, he could walk out with the help of crutches and the next day was walking without them! My husband was back at work 4 days later after figuring out he had a pinched nerve and 2 more visits. I would highly recommend Dr. Benson and his entire staff to anyone that is looking for a chiropractor that really does care about his patients.

I had a hip replacement last year. I have been limping lately and quite frankly feeling crooked and having back spasms. Dr Benson and staff worked wonders the first day with massage, electric stim and spinal adjustment. The limp was less pronounced and my back pain was significantly lessened when I left. I know this is a work in progress but I feel we are on the right path forward.

When I went to Dr. Thigpen, I had been in pain for months. I was thinking that at my age, maybe pain was just part of life. However, Dr. Thigpen had me pain-free within three weeks. He is amazing and the staff is great. Highly recommend
