Meet Our Chiropractic Doctor in Bay City

JZ Benson, DC

Chiropractor

Dr. JZ Benson worked for a contractor in high school who specialized in remodeling homes and thought he’d follow that career path himself. At the age of 16, he fell 12 feet and landed on a 2×4, severely injuring his spine.

For six months, he went from doctor to doctor, wearing a corset-like back brace and being heavily medicated. He was told surgery was his only choice, but a friend helped him find another solution.

A friend encouraged him to visit her chiropractor. He had never been to a chiropractor, but they had tried everything else and decided to give it a try.

After the first visit, he felt like he could breathe again. After six months of pain and not being able to do anything physical, he was able to stand up straight and bend over. Within two weeks of chiropractic care, he was back to running track again—with his fastest times ever.

That experience changed his life, and he decided to pursue a career in chiropractic to help others the way he was helped.

He attended Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena, TX, where he played on the school’s softball team. Luckily, when he dislocated his shoulder sliding into third base, he immediately received chiropractic care and was able to get back in the game.

Dr. Benson and his wife, Vicki, have two boys, both of whom are practicing chiropractors.

When he’s not seeing patients, Dr. Benson looks after his own fitness. He works out, runs, and likes challenging himself at the gym. He enjoys playing with his dogs and traveling and hopes to find more time for surfing and golf.

Dr. Benson is absolutely the best! I took my husband to the ER in severe pain in his lower back. He could not move. They pumped him full of pain medication and sent him on his way, saying they could not help him. I called Dr. Benson's office while in the ER and explained the situation. I took my husband straight to his office from the ER; he could not walk, could not sit up, and was laid out in the back seat of my truck. Dr. Benson came out to my truck and helped to get him out of the truck and into one of the rooms. After working on him for about 45 minutes, he could walk out with the help of crutches and the next day was walking without them! My husband was back at work 4 days later after figuring out he had a pinched nerve and 2 more visits.
